Headbut

Filed under: All Posts — Wrote by Scott on Thursday, August 28th, 2008 @ 6:58 pm

Last night I was laying on the bed watching the princess play and she ended up losing her balance and smacking her head against the closet door. So I did would any good father would do — you know, laugh.

Anyhow, the princess thought this was funny for some reason so she went over to the closet and gave it another good headbut. And then another. And then another. Soon after, I was leaning my head from the bed as she kept ramming her head into mine, all of us (the princess, the wifey, and I) laughing hysterically the entire time.

It’s funny, you go through life running after this that and the other and ultimately, it ends up being the silly little moments like this that really make a difference — make life worth living if you will. Babies get that; that haven’t had it crushed out of them yet. That’s why you watch them go from tears and screams to smiles and laughter in less than a millisecond. They don’t have emotional baggage. They just want to eat and play. That’s it. Sometimes I wish us adults could return to that type of innocence. It’s not about where and what we are not, what we don’t have, or how things should be. It’s about where we are now, and how we might as well do our best to fucking enjoy it a bit.

Long story short, there is nothing better to lift your spirits than giving a baby a good headbut.

Weather Report

Seems the weather report got it wrong today: it’s been raining all week but no rain yet as of today. I’m sure it will all start back up by tonight or tomorrow though.

I have been spending my lunch time studying Kanji and working on editing my book as usual. I think I have been on chapter 12 for like a week now — just can’t get it the way I want it. I’m pretty close though. I figure I should be able to wrap it up after another day. I hope anyway.

House Stuff Yet Again

Filed under: All Posts — Wrote by Scott on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 @ 11:50 pm

Today we headed out to meet with the architect for more house planning and yet again, they found more stuff for us to pay for. There is a drop-off at the back of our lot walled up in concrete and the city said we are going to have to replace it because it’s too old. Also, we are going to have to deepen the foundation in the back for more support. So in short, yeah, more stuff to pay for. I think I’m starting to see a pattern here.

The good news is that we plan on closing up our planning after two more sessions. You know, before they tell us we need to build our own fucking water tower or something (although on second thought, that might actually be pretty cool). We have pretty much finished deciding on the main stuff and we have finished cutting things out to get the price down to something manageable so the hard part should be done with. Then again I say that every week. Anyhow, if all goes well we should have the house up by the end of March.

It’s my birthday on the 31st and one of our friends has a birthday this month as well so we have decided to get together at our place with some other people from lunch tomorrow and get drunk. I’m going to be going to Osaka with the wifey on my actual birthday to celebrate with her dad who also has a birthday in August. And the princess had her first birthday on the 7th. What is up with all these August birthdays?

Oh, and I’m about 1/3 finished with editing my novel and I haven’t even stabbed myself in the eye with a pencil yet. I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to at least one more read through even when I get finished but anyhow, one step at a time.

fit - 87 Sonic 4 Wrap-up

Filed under: All Posts, fit — Wrote by Scott on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 @ 6:59 pm

Saturday was 87 Sonic 4, and like last time around, it was an utter blast! Lots of good bands, lots of awesome people, and just a really, really good time. One big difference was that for this go around, there were only four bands in total (including ours) which meant each band got close to an hour worth of stage time. I was honestly a bit worried about it beforehand considering we are used to playing such short sets here in Tokyo, but it turned out to go a lot smoother than I expected. I guess that suggests we did a pretty proficient job of planning our set list out. It’s amazing the difference it made. I was absolutely dying by the end of our last show and it was much, much shorter than this one.

As for our performance itself, I think it was one of our strongest. There were of course a lot of small mistakes, but all in all I think it sounded rather tight. I was really happy with what we put out overall. We have another event coming up soon (next month) so I’m hoping we can keep up the same momentum for that one as well.

Anyhow, thanks so much to 87 Stupid for the invite, to Maggie for the beautiful pictures above (and some more to come when I get the chance to go through them), to Yukari, our lovely fit groupie, and to Youichi for all the fantastic video and support. Also thanks to all the other bands whom it was a pleasure getting to play with, and the super-fucking-fantastic audience that made this event so damn fun to play at.

As I said before, more pictures to come and maybe, just maybe even some video. I have a ton of good source video from this gig and I’m considering putting together a small digest if I can make the time. Keep pestering me and I may eventually get around to it.

fit - 87 Sonic 4 Preparation

Filed under: All Posts, fit — Wrote by Scott on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 @ 1:38 pm

We will be playing at 87 Sonic 4 this Saturday at Shibuya Guilty. Doors open at 17:00 and we will be on at around 19:00 (for a nice long 50 minuets). We have some new songs to play so be sure to drop in!

I spent most of last night printing up and cutting out fliers for the show. I still got a good bit of preparation left to do but I’ll probably manage to cover it either today or tomorrow night. We had to shift days for rehearsal this week because of everyones’ schedule so we are going to be doing a short session on the day before the show rather than tonight. I guess I better be sure not to kill myself. Playing a 50 minute set consisting of the songs we have is far from a breeze, especially when you are as ancient as me and have a lovely cold to go along with it. Hopefully my fever will go down at least.

So Much Happening

Filed under: All Posts — Wrote by Scott on Monday, August 11th, 2008 @ 10:32 am

There is just so much going on these days in the news it almost feels impossible to keep up. You have the deaths of both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes, the Olympics in China (along with an American getting stabbed there), the whole John Edwards affair, some lady who sells her house to clone her dog, only to be noticed on the news as a former beauty queen (former being the key word) that skipped bail after being arrested on unlawful imprisonment charges for abducting a Mormon missionary, handcuffing him to a bed, and fucking his brains out.

And I have a cold — again.

Thanks princess, always so generous.

We got a show coming up on Saturday (and practice on Friday) so I’m hoping I feel a bit better before then. We will see though.
